The first exhibition by LUZIGER – “The Beginning of the Beginning” – will feature new works from Vietnamese artist Le Trieu Dien (Lê Triều Điển, b.1943), who has exhibited in China, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and France. The show marks the official launch of LUZIGER, a creative arts space in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The paintings of Le are introspective stories on canvas about life in the Mekong Delta, to which his hometown Ben Tre province belongs – its scenic landscapes anchoring to the alluvial river, vestiges of ancient cultures overlaying the land, quotidian customs and traditions imprinted in people’s souls. He channels a lifetime of memories into intuitive brushstrokes pulsating with colors, rhythms and symbols. Le’s work, as a result, is imbued with intricate layers of feelings and emotions captured in abstraction, inviting viewers to a journey into meditative realms of spirituality and the sublime, where art is always the beginning.
“Artworks would erase the separation of life, help make people close to one another; there will be no parting among countries and nations; there will be no borders, and nothing strange either; there will be no need to translate language, everybody will be able to view, to see and to cotton on it when one’s feelings have been shared, and arts have flourished.” – from the artist’s book “The Journey of Alluvium”.
In celebration of the launch, new artworks by resident artist and co-founder Laurent Judge will also be presented. LUZIGER will hold a series of weekly events related to “The Beginning of the Beginning”, including musical and artistic performances that explore, examine and interpret the ideas and concepts in Le’s paintings.
